Welcome to Sail Greener

Sail Greener LLC was created in early 2021, nearly a year after COVID-19 first began changing so much of what the world took for granted. Sailgreener.com went live in early 2022. Amidst all the bad news about the pandemic, economy, climate, and more, there were bright spots of good news for boaters concerned about climate, oceans, and the environment: Global installed wind and solar energy production set records, sales of electric vehicles skyrocketed, and boat dealers announced record sales. What? Yup, in the middle of the pandemic boat dealers in many locations reported brisk sales. 

More people than ever are concerned about the environment and health and want to make a difference. Sailors are no different. Diesel engines pollute, cleaners can be hazardous, outerwear can be doused with toxic “forever chemicals,” and our oceans are at risk.  But what are the alternatives? How do you find trusted information about sustainable alternatives?  What can individuals do to make a difference for their own health, that of their families, and the health of the oceans and the communities that depend on the ocean? 

Many websites include some of these topics, but it can be hard to find authoritative information on sustainable sailing in one place. After doing our own research, it made sense to share the results of our work with others who share similar interests–and to have a reason to keep doing more research!

Sail Greener is organized into five broad categories: boats and gear, products and apparel, oceans and environment, travel and charters, and a growing list of resources related to sustainable sailing, including news, books, videos, web resources, weather, and more. .
